NEW PLYMOUTH VISIT. WELCOMED by the mayor. VISIT TO TARANAKI CLUB. After an enjoyable motor drive from Opunake in warm spring sunshine, their Excellencies the Goveror-General and Lady Jellicoe arrived in New Plymouth by motor car at about a quarter past six last night. When the oar, which was driven by Lady Jellicoe, drew up at the White. Hart Hotel, the gathering of citizens who had awaiteu the arrival of the party, heartily cheered them. Their Excellencies were accompanied by Captain Curtis (private secretary) and Captain Mundy, A.D.C. On alighting from the car his Excellency was met by the Mayor (Mr. F. E, Wilson) and the presentation of the councillors to their Excellencies followed. Cheers were renewed as the vice-regal party entered the hotel. Two functions were fixed for last night, an informal .Visit by hi# Excellency to the Taranaki Club, and her Excellency’s visit to the Plunket rooms. Owing to yesterday’s long journey, however, Lady Jellicoe was not able to fulfill last night’s engagement, but it is probable she will visit the Plunket rooms before the end of her visit to New Plymouth. His "(Excellency, aide-de-camp and secretary were., met in the evening by the Mayor (Mr. F. E. Wilson) and the borough manager (Mr. F. T. Bellringer), and escorted to the Taranaki Club, where the party was introduced to the president (Mr. C. H. Weston) and the members of the committee. Then the Governor was welcomed by the president in a felicitous speech, Lord Jellicoe acknowledging the welcome. The Mayor also made a few remarks, after which members were presented to the distinguished guest, who spent a couple of hours pleasantly, being entertained to supper before leaving. ... ~ j TO-DAY’S PROGRAMME. Included in to-day’s functions is the official reception to Their Excellencies, and the town will observe a holiday from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., in order to enable people to attend the reception. The following is the official programme to be carried out to-day:— 9.30 a.m.—Their Excellencies visit Marsland Hill.

9.50 a.m.—-Visit to public hospital, where the party will be met by members of the Hospital Board. 11 a.m.—Arrive High School, inspection of guard of honor. Official reception and presentation of address. After the ceremony a number’of leadig citizens will be presented to Their Excellencies, and those who have received invitations are asked to write their namejs and official positions on foe backs of the cards, in order to facilitate this ceremony. The public are requested to remain in their places till the viceregal party has left the ground.

Noon.—-Return to hotel via Pukekura Park.

2 p.m.—Official opening of Clarke Memorial Hostel by Lady Jellicoe. 2,45 p.m.—Drive to golf links, where Lord Jellicoe will play a round. 8.30 p.m.—Citizens’ ball.
