Or ders for papers may also be left with them. WAR TROPHIES EXHIBITION. Oct. 25. The general committee set up to manage the recent War Trophies Exhibition held a meeting to-day to consider the balance-sheet and decide to what purposes the profits should be directed. The Mayor (Mr. J. W. McMillan), who presidetl, reported that the exhibition had been very successful, but the expenditure had amounted to more than they had anticipated. The credit balance was £3O 14s 3d.

The Mayor said that he had wired to the Minister of Defence (Sir R. Heaton Rhodes), who had heartily supported the suggestion that the proceeds should go towards the war memorial fund. It was decided to devote the proceeds to that purpose.

GENERAL ITEMS. A cable message recently received states that Dr. Steven, of Stratford, who recently became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, has again been successful in passing the examination entitling him to become a Fellow of the Royal Faculty of Physicians and Surgeons, Glasgow. Mr. R. Masters, M.P., returned to Wellington by the mail train yesterday. After a spell of extremely wet weather, Stratford experienced a fine, sunny afternoon to-day. Although conditions did not look very promising in the morning, rain coming down, at intervals, the sun prevailed during the afternoon, and the change was very much appreciated. Stratford is to have a “general-clean-up week” shortly. - It was decided at the last council meeting that a certain week should be set aside during which residents should be asked to clean up their yards and properties, and though the bad weather of late has prevented the idea from being put into practice, it is understood that the "clean up” will be announced shortly.

“THE GREAT McEWEN” AT STRATFORD. A DISTINGUISHED ENTERTAINER. On Thursday evening the Great McEwen will make his initial appearance in Stratford, and considerable interest is being manifested in the visit of this eminent mesmerist, magician and entertainer. The programme will consist of conjuring, sleight-of-hand, card manipulation and demonstrations of autosuggestion, mental telepathy, thought transference, and that must fascinating but little understood subject hypnotism. It is claimed for the Groat McEwen that through the whole evening there is not a dull moment, and while there are many mesmeric experiments of a serious nature, laughter predominates. McEwen has appeared on more than one occasion by Royal command at Buckingham Palace and at the present King’s country seat, Sandringham. The management announce that, at the request of some citizens, special experiments and demonstrations will be given which are rarely attempted in public. The box plan for each night will be available for inspection at the Marble Bar, Broadway, Stratford.
