REVOLT IN INDIA.
A MAGISTRATE MURDERED. BRITISH SOLDIERS MISSING. By Telegraph.—Press Assn —Copyright. Received August 25, 1.10 a.m. Delhi, August 24. The proclamation of martial law has had a sobering effect in the Ernad district, but the situation is still very grave and a state of open rebellion exists in certain areas. The military dispositions are proceeding expeditiously. ,Mr. Austin, joint magistrate at Malapurm, has been murdered.
A detachment of the Leinster regiment is missing. The rebels, who are all Moslems, have made some captured of arms.—Reuter Service.
MARTIAL LAW PROCLAIMED. Delhi, August 23. Martial law has been proclaimed in the Calicut district and strong bodies of troops are drafted in. Great damage was done by the rioters to the railways and public buildings. The superintendent of police and a military officer were killed. Indian reinforcements have heon mobilised, but the transport of reinforcements is impeded by the felling of trees across the roads. The rioters are. nqw being rounded up.
