NO CANDIDATE OFFERING. TRIBUTE TO MR. W, A. COLLIS. The withdrawal of Mr. W. A. Coll is' nomination for the Mayoral by-election was mentioned at last night's'meeting of the New Plymoutli Borough Council, when, on the motion of the DeputyMayor'(Mr. F. .1. Ifill), a resolution wiis i'i-vvi«(l by the Council placing on record its deep appreciation of the valuable services rendered by Mr. Collis during his long term as a member of the Council, and expressing the hope that a well-earned rest would result in an improvement in his health. In moving the resolution, the Deputy-Maror said all would regret that Mr. Collis was not able to take the position of Mayor. So far there have been no further aspirants for the position, nominations for which close in a week's time. Yesterday the name of a well-known solicitor was mentioned, but the rumor was without foundation.
There, is also a vacancy on the Council and a similar position exists in this direction, no candidates vet haviim- been announced. ' °
