WilJoughby, deputy-Commissioner of Kheri, in the province of Oudh, was assassinated *t his residence during the absence of servants by a local Moslem fanatic. Jhe latter was a convict who served sentences for burglary, and assaulting a magistrate. Three, others were arrested. , The' evidence discloses that the crime was the .outcome of a Khalifate agitation and the prosecution of certain Itinerant preachers in connection therewith. Christianina reports that the police at Vardoe seised 70,000 roubles in gold fonnd in the luggage of Madson, editor of a Socialist newspaper at Frondheim. Madsen wss returning from the Moscow Internationale, where he represented the Jforwegian Labor Party. The battleship Malaya conveys the poke of Connaught to India.
