WIFE ASSAULTED.
TURNED OUT BY SUSBAND. ACCUSED SENT TO GAOL. A charge of assaulting his wife was preferred against Thomas Boardman, aged 30, at the New Plymouth Court on Saturday morning, the accused having been arrested just previously by Constable Small. The parties, it appears, live on the beach in the vicinity of Belt Eoad, and according to a statement by his wife, Boardman, who returned home late on Friday night, without any provocation attacked her and their son aged about 11 years. Mrs. Boardman was ejected from the house, and as a result of the assault hecame unconscious. On recovery she proceeded to town with the boy and stayed the night at an hotel, informing the police of the occurrence on Saturday morning. Boardman was in a violent mood at the time of the assault and threatened to "do for" his wife with a razor. On appearing before the Court the accused pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment with hard labor. He was warned by the Magistrate that if he did not behave himself at the expiry of the sentence he would have to enter into a bond to keep the peace.
