WAR ON POLICE. STNN FEIN TERRORISM. By .Telesrapli.—PriM Assn.—Copyricht, Received March 10, 8.50 p.m. London, March S, A party of Sinn Feiners entered n, grocer's shop in a village near Thurlos, Tipperary, and fired revolvers at two constables who were making purchases for their barracks.

Constable Herne took cover, shooting from behind the counter until he was killed by n bullet. His companion, who was not injured, fired until the raiders decamped.

A farmer named Martin Cullinane was killed by a revolver fired through a window while he was visiting friends in the Atherry district. Sir Edward Carson, speaking at Belfast, said that if Sinn Fein terrors were attempted in Ulster the whole of society would be organised to end the dastardly crimes.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.

HOME RULE FOR IRELAND. London, March 5. Sir Horace Plunkett, in a speech r.t Dublin, denounced the proposed joint Council as a monstrosity and the Home Rule scheme as generally futile. He claimed that, as the result of recent personal inquiry, he had (ascertained that America wished Ireland to lave as large a measure of autonomv as was consistent with the safety of *tlie Empire, but did not wish to see a Republic.

Sir F.dward Carson, addressins; the Unionist Council at Belfast, raised the question of the desirability of Ulster demanding the inclusion of'fiaran. Momighart and Donegal, but invited frank discussion on all points before coming to a decision.—Times.
