Mcintosh ate using a modified de Haviland scout machine, with a cruiaing speed of 85 miles an hour. The machine weighs 3800 pounds fully equipped, including the crew. The aviators departed without official leave, because they were tired of waiting, and personally accept all responsibility for their act. Lieut. Parer states the sole object is to try to make Australia with a' single engine under Sir Boss Smith's time, and he expects to reach Darwin in twentyfour days.—-United Service, [Lieut. Parer left London on January 8. This airman, who belongs to Melbourne, went to the front with the 14th Reinforcements of the A.F.C., which he had joined in June, 1917. He is 23 years of age. He always had a taste for engineering and flying, and at the age of 10 years succeeded m making a miniature aeroplane, which he used to fly from the top of a loft. After leaving school he ; , studied engineering, and about two years ago enlisted in the Flying Corps, and entered the Scotch Poole Flying School in England. Though he has taken no part in the actual fighting work of the Flying Corps, Lieutenant Parer has flown across the Channel almost daily, and over various parts of England and Scotland. He is known as an intrepid airman, and on one occasion was the only one of 20 to come through a storm without any mishap.] SIR ROSS SMITH. WILL FLY TO SYDNEY. Sydney, Jan. 10. A telegram from Captain Sir Ross Smith states that the repairs to his aeroplane are being satisfactorily executed and he will find no difficulty in flying to Sydney.
