CONGESTION AT PORTS. CHARGES AGAINST GOVERNMENT. REFUTED BY FOOD CONTROLLER. By Telegraph —Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Sept. 14, 5.5 p.m. London, Sept. 12. The congestion at ports continues to attract attention, particularly the accumulation of foodstuffs in the Mersey, The Harbor Board states that there are 65,460 boxes of bacon on the quay at Liverpool, worth fifteen million sterling. The board says the Government is responsible, as the board warned the Ministry for Food that congestion was inevitable if the quantities foreshadowed were received. Traders charge the Ministry with causing high prices by their unbusinesslike methods, and also declare that millions of pounds have been wasted through depreciation and tainted bacon since control was resumed on August 9. Mr. G. H. Roberts (Food Controller) denies that there has been waste, and declares that the bacon at the ports does riot belong to the Ministry.
