At the Auckland police Court yesterday, George Joseph Windsor, aged 20 was charged with the theft of a fire-' mans helmet. The police stated that two suspicious fires had occurred at Devonport. Accused was in the neighbourhood on both occasions, and assisted the Fire Brigade to extinguish both fires. He was remanded for a week.

The 'Defence Department has arranged with an Auckland firm to manufacture artificial legs, according to best English models, and that these be supplied to soldiers in New Zealand who are needing them. Any men in Egypt needing limbs will be sent to England for attention, and men who have lost an arm will be provided with the American-made Kahn arm.—Press Association.

The sale of tickets for Mr. Newton King's motor car that is to be raffled for at Kaponga on Saturday has so far been very satisfactory. At the Klthain Magistrate's Court on Thursday, before W. Cnrneross and E. Parrott, J.'sP., Ralph Starley Lewis appeared on remand, charged with the theft of .CHO, moneys allegedly belonginjf to a picture show partnership of which he was a partner. Mr. J. L. Weir appeared for the prosecuting partners and Mr, 1- O'Dea for the accused. Mr. Weir stated that he intended to offer no evidence, as the moneys had been satisfactorily accounted for, and he wished to withdraw the information. He also added that to allay certain rumours that had been going round, the accused so far as lie knew bore a clean record. The case was then dismissed.

At the Magistrate's Court yesterday, Mr. A. Crooke, S.M., sat as a commission to decide an application Tjy the Okato "Road Board praying that the Taranaki County Council, Parihaka Road Board and Kgmont County Council should contribute to the maintenance of the Carrington, Saunders and Oxford Roads, in the Okato Road District. Mr. A. H. .Tolmstone appeared for the Okato Road Board. Mr. I). Hutlehen (on behalf of Mr. Quilliam), for the Taranaki County Council, and Mr. A. A. Bennett (Roy and Nicholson), for the Egmont County Council and Parihaka Road Board. The matter was not completed when the commission adjourned.
