THE AUTUMN SHOW. COMMITTEE MEETING, A committee meeting of the Taranaki A. and P. Association was held on Saturday, when there were present: Messrs J. S. Connett (chairman), Colson. Sniellie, H. C. Sampson, W. Hall, '\V. B. Grant, X. W. Hill, Topless, Reube, Hughes, B. Honeyiield, Lister, A. T. Moore, S. Viekers, G. Longstafl', J. Honeyiield and C. Fairbrother. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT, The chairman reported that there were now 900 members of the Society. Of these so far 410 had paid their subscriptions, 200 had paid through their factories, and 150 had yet to pay through factories. Donations to the ' prize fund totalled £2OO. These, he I thought, should be increased to £3OO or i £409 for the two shows. He had been I told in New Plymouth when soliciting donations that townspeople were always asked to find the bulk of the donations. ! He would be glad, therefore, to receive I a- many donations from the country as possible. Debentures to the amount of £I2OO had been taken up. With Messrs W. B. Grant, T. I.uxton and W. Hall, lie had visited Stratford and Hawera districts, and despite the shortage of [ labor had received gratifying response in the number of entries promised from those districts. They could therefore ! confidently look forward to a good show. GENERAL. ■The Under-Secretary of the Department of Internal Affuirs notified that prosecutions would be taken in cases where races were held at agricultural shows without a permit. He stated that it had been held that any contest between two or more horses where speed was the deciding factor was a horse race within the meaning of the Act.— Members were doubtful how this affected the turning competition, and a committee, consising of the president and Messrs L. A. Xolan, D. J. Hughes and F. Watson was appointed to go into the matter. Mr. Burton, Chief Postmaster, notified that he had placed before the Secretary ot the Department the Society's request that a uniform postage of y 2 d should he charged on schedules, and had received a reply that this was not possible. Mr.'E. Whittle's tender for the booth was accepted. Mr. Wooller notified that owing to his sons being absent, at the war and in camp he was unable to undertake the catering.—The matter was referred to the chairman to arrange. It was reported that satisfactory arrangements had been made for paddocking. It was resolved to engage Mrs. Wood's orchestra for People's Day. Some discussion ensued as to the site. Several members considered that the orchestra should be brought closer to the crowd instead of being placed on the lawns. Against this was raised the objection that the din of the side-shows would not allow music-lovers to enjoy the music. Tile matter was left in abeyance, A working bee will be held on the showgrounds next Thursday, and also the following Thursday.
