LIFE-SAVING CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING. The adjourned annual meeting of the New Plymouth Surf Bathing and Lifesaving Club was held in the Town Hall on Monday evening. Mr. D. J. Hughes presided over an attendance of nine members. The balance showed receipts to be £22 17s and expenditure £l4; cash in bank, £8 17s, with other assets valued at £29 10s. Officers were elected as follows:—Patron, Mr. W. T. Jennings, M.P. (reelected); president, Mr. D. J. Hughes; vicepresidents, Mr, H. J. Okey, M.P., bis Worship the Mayor (Mr. C. H. Burgess), Messrs A. R. Standish, W. H. Moves, H. Dempsey, A. E. Sykes, S. J. Smith, J. W. Hayden, M. Fraser, E. Whittle, P. J. Flannagan, A. S. Brooker, J. E. Wilson, W. N. Ewing, and the Rev. A. B. Chappell; club captain, Mr. L. B. Stohr; vicecaptain, Mr. F. E. Clarke; instructor, Mr. P. A. Schwartz; lion, medical officers, Drs, Fookes and Wade; secretary and treasurer, Mr. W. Ainsworth; auditor, Mr. C. T. Mills; executive, Messrs W. Whitaker, S. G. Smith, J. Bennett, J. Elliot, C. Sadler, E. Whittle and J. Honeyfield. Considerable discussion ensued as to the advisability of introducing lifesaving classes in the schools. On the motion of Mr. S. G. Smith, it was carried that it be a recommendation to the incoming executive to approach the Education Board, with a view to the Board taking steps to introduce swimming classes in the schools. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the secretary and the active officers for the manner in which they had carried out their duties. In answer to a question, it was stated that the membership fee was fixed by the head centre at Wanganui at 2s 6<l for men and Is for ladies and youths. A vote of thanks to the cialr terminated the meeting,
