THE TROOPS ABROAD.
APPRECIATION OF NEWSPAPERS. The following interesting letter from General Sir A. J. Godley to the editor of the Auckland Weekly News came to hand by Monday's mail, and is published in order that relatives in New Zealand may understand how much copies of New Zealand papers arc welcomed by our soldiers abroad:— Headquarters, New Zealand and Australian Division, Anzac Cove, Gallipoli Peninsula, Slav 2'.i, 1915 Dear Sir,—On behalf of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, I wish to thank you very sincerely for your generosity in sending us the 'liberal supply of your excellent paper, which comes to hand regularly. We all enjoy the New Zealand news very much before "passing it on." A mail from New Zealand is really a red letter day with us, and every one of lis is cheered up when it conies to band. To see a New Zealand mail sorted on the hills of Gallipoli Peninsula is a sight to be remembered. II: is four weeks to-day since we landed. There is practically 110 sickness anions the troops, who 'are all in excellent spirits: and we gave the Turlr-- n real good "dusting" on the night oi Ih-111. Yours very truly. A. .1. OuDLKY, Major-General. Commanding N.Z. Expeditionary Force.
