AN OFFICIAL REPORT. Received 16, 10.5 p.m. Petrograd, October 15. Official.—The Russians defeated tha Austrians south of Frzemysl. Five hundred were captured and several machineguns.
(Yesterday's cables made it appear that the Russians had withdrawn from Przemsyl and tile country south of it.).
PRZEMYSL STILL HOLDING OUT. AUSTRIAN SALLY REPULSED. GERMANS BEATEN BACK NEAR WARSAW. Received 17, 1.5 a.m. Petrograd, October 16. The Russians are ceaselessly bombarding Przemysl. Three thousand Austrians made a sortis on Wednesday. A Russian regiment allowed the enemy to approach within easy range, and then opened fire with mitrailleuses, annihilating them. Fighting is proceeding 30 miles west of Warsaw, wkero the German advance guard was repulsed after a severe engagement seven miles from the city. 1 Russian cavalry beyond the Carpathians report a great exploit. One squadron intercepted a troop train. The eonitnaiider leapt on to the engine and stopped the train. All the Hungarians were slain, and large supplies were captured.
