THE CAPE EGIUtOKT CONTEST. Great excitement was caused at. Puarjk garehu ;by tibfa big tug-of-war eventuated in the hall on Wednesday Mglht. There was a good attendanceof spectators, who were rewarded by seeing some magnificent druggie* for supremacy. Matapu eventually secured fflmt place andl Pungareihu second place. In all, six teams entered, viz., Par&afca, Pungarehu, Eguiont County cmrtuv, Warea, and Matopu. ■ ..Matapu beat pungarehu after tyty solid pulls, tho Matapu team, who ' went through the Hawcra. event, being a splendid team. Warea beat Rahotu twice, after exciting pulls. ■ in the second round Pungarehu beat the Crusher.

Pungarehu were to have pulled Rahotu, but both these teams cried enough, •ad retired. . Matapu then beat the Crusher team and secured first place, Pungarehu and Warea then pulled off ffor second place and one of the best pu'.la of the evening eventuated. For ejix minutes neither team gained a 'quarter of an inch advantage. The* Pungarehu gained tho verdict by a taremargin. The arrangements were in tills hasdk of the Cape Egmont Sports Club, ami campetitots and spectators appreciated: their completeness-, which wa» fa u large measure due to the organising capability of the secretary, Mr. W. F. Guild.
