CARELESS WORKMEN. By Telegraph—Press Av,;>c;ation. Auckland, Thursday. In the Supreme Court, Mr .lustice Cooper gave his decision 011 a motion for a new trial in the case of John Snowdon against the Waitomo County Council, in which the j irv awarded plaintiff £3O damages for injuries to hU left hand, which was shattered by detonators found near ail tilianiloned forge. The jury held that plaintiffs injuries were due to the carelessness of the council's workmen. ' Plaintiff, a boy of eleven years, was playing with other boys near the abandoned forge upon unfcnced Jimd about a chain from the main road. His Honor commented severely on the gross negligence on the part of those responsible and of the County Council workmen in leaving detonators loosely about and dismissed the motion for re-trial with costs.
CONCILIATION OC'OUNCIL. Napier, Thursday. At the sitting of the Conciliation Council to deal with the woo] and grain store employees' dispute, all the matters were, adjusted except as to the wages of weekly hands and the length of the term of the award. These will probably he settled, and the Arbitration Court be called upon to register the agreement only.
