ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
AN OLD MAN KILLED. Per Press Association. Dunedin, Saturday. Andrew Chapman, an old identity of Balclutha, was killed by a train arriving at Balclutha between 4 and 6 o'clock this morning. He leaves a large grownup family. He lived alone, and had been in the habit lately of wandering about at all hours. KILLED AT A LEVEL CROSSING. Auckland, Last Night. A fatal accident occurred at a level crossing at Huntly on Saturday afternoon. John Hurst, a miner employed by the Taupiri Company, was in the act of crossing the line on foot when the south-bound Rotorua express came up (tnd struck him and carried him some distance. Death must have been instantaneous, the body being terribly mutilated. There was a clear and' unobstructed view of the train for about half a m'jle, and how deceased came to walk in front of the train is inexplicable. Hurst, who was a recent arrival in the Dominion, had one son and one married daughter. A DETERMINED SUICIDE. Christchurch, Last Night. Yesterday morning a man named Albert Collings, aged 42, engaged as a fellmonger at Islington, committed suicide by putting the barrel of a gun in his mouth and shooting himself. At the inquest Mrs. Collings said he had been on a drinking bout lately, and when he was on drinking bouts lie threatened to commit sircide. The coroner returned a verdict that deceased committed suicide whilst temporarily of unsound mind:
