OUR DREADNOUGHT.
ARRIVAL IN AUCKLAND. AN AMUSING SCENE. Per Press Association. Auckland, Saturday. The battleship New Zealand arrived at 8 a.m., and was berthed at the Queen Street Wharf without difficulty. She will be coaled on Monday and sail for Vancouver on Saturday next. At the Maori welcome to the captain and officer of the battleship at Russell, the Maori maidens effusively slapped Prince George on the back. One pretty Maori girl threw her arms round the Prince's neck and kissed him oil both cheeks. The Prince, who was greatly embarrassed, beat a hasty retreat. Captain Halsey was an amused spectator until the same young lady made straight for him. He looked for an avenue of escape, but found it impossible, and met his fate bravely. Amid a scene of unrestrained merriment the soft brown arms went round his neck, and the triumph of the damsel was complete. The officers lined up as the Maori party walked past shaking hands. Several Maori maidens singled ,out Prince George, and stopped long enough to kiss him as/ they passed. This time he
went through the ordeal unflinchingly, though evidently relieved when the unrehearsed ceremony was over.
