GOLF.
[ NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. 1 This afternoon, on the Xgamotu links, a men's foursome will be played by the members of the New Plymouth Club, the short handicap players playing with the long handicap players. ' On Tuesday afternoon last a match was played against teams from the Stratford and Inglewood clubs. Although the local club had taken on a rather a large contract it came out victorious. These inter-club matches should certainly be encouraged by the various clubs. The New Plymouth Club, which is the metropolitan club for Taranaki, has certainly set a good:example. Quite a number of,goiters who had not seen the links since Easter were greatly' pleased with the course, and the opinion was expressed that New Plymouth will certainly have, in a few years' time, one of the finest courses in the Dominion.
The caretaker has been busy lately making permanent tees, and the work is now finished; They should prove a great improvement to the course when they are ready for use; The golf professional (McCormack) will be in New Plymouth early in July for a week, and again at the end of the month for a fortnight, and his services will be available for .the members of the New Plymouth Club. It is hoped that arrangements will be made to retain McCormack's services entirely for the Taranaki clubs. TARAHUA CLUB. The links are now in fine order, and two or three of the "holes" have 1 been lengthened, in order to make the course more sporting. The ladies' medal handicap, 13 holes, played on Thursday, resulted: Miss Pellew,' 105—30—75; Miss Sommervell, 98— 16—82; Miss West, 108—20—88. A men's medal handicap will be played this afternoon, players to be ready by two o'clock. Post entries will be received. On Thursday a mixed foursome will be played. ■ THE WITIORA CLUB. The membership of the Witiora Club is steadily increasing, and many of the beginners are coming on,very well. Indeed, during the week Mr. Gilmour did "The Rocks" (bogey for which is five) in two. A foursome will be played this afternoon.
