Webster and A very charming "at "home".was held in the Kia Ora tea-rooms last Thursday afternoon,, given by Mr. • and ]srs/Biundell to celebrate their silver . The rooms were prettily decorated- and cosily arranged, one room being "set apart for bridge, while the lest of the guests entered into the dirferent cbmpetitions with great meriment and zeal. During the afternoon gramaphonti Selections were given and a delicious tea was served. The different prizes were won by Mesdames Courtney, 1 A. C. Fookes and Penn. Murray, Walker, Burgess, M. Fraser, li. Bayley, N. King, Matthews, S. Shaw, Brewster, Misses McKellar, Wade, Bedford, Bayley, F. Wood, J. Curtis, and Matthews. Theatre. —"The Blue Bird," by J. C. IWililamson's company, was greeted with a crowded house. Usually at the these functions the audience is mostly composed of "grown-ups," but on this occasion the merry-faced youhg3ters predominated. Though it was not a pantomime—just a beautifully illustrated allegory—l do hope they- understood and enjoyed it. Probably ft was somewhat more than the childish mind could grasp, but some of the scenes were lovely and simple in the extreme, especially that of *The Kingdom of the Future." That alone was worth going forth to see. The usual long waits were again experienced, fcnt the exquisite orchestral music amply made up.for this deficiency. Amongst those present were Mrs. A. Mr. and Mrs. Los. Nolan and Miss N.' ; Capel have gone on a trip to Auckland. Mrs. Jack Morton, of Napier, is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Webster, New I'lvniouth. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Weston leave on a trip to England in the course of a week or so.
