Mr. J. Duffin. of the Railway Department, is at present on holiday leave.
The death is announced of Mr. Barton McGucken, the English tenor vocalist.
A London cablegram states that the Prince of Wales lias returned to London.
The Royal Indian Marine has initiated a memorial to Lt. Bowers, who lost his life in Scott's polar expedition. The wife of Commander Evans, of the Terra Nova, underwent an operation at Naples, and is in a critical condition.
A requisition is being numerously signed asking Mr.<X. T. Maunder to allow himself to lie nominated for the forthcoming Borough election. At the meeting of the New Plymouth Harbour Board yesterday, Mr. J. McCluggage was granted leave of absence, owing to the illness of his wife. . Mr. Edwin G. Skelton. manager of the local branch of the New Zealand Express Company, Ltd., has been promoted to the management of the Invereargill branch.
A Sydney cablegram states that Mrs. Maud L .Pearee, « resident of Auckland, ' expired in the smoking room of the steamer Macedonia. Deceased was goin;; to London. Mr. Jas. Hunter of "Al! ftlack" fame and an enthusiast in matters pert- ■ ing to sheep dog trials, will mako his delmt as judge at the North Auckland Sheep Dog Trials, to be held in May. Master Douglas Harle, ex-pupil of the local Central and High Schools, has obtained the first half of the B.A. degree, and also the first section of the L.L.B. degree. Mast.er Ilarle is the holder of a ftenior national scholarship at Victoria College.
