A London cablegram reports the death of Lord Llandaff at the age of 87 years. Lord Llandaff, who was better known as Mr. Henry Matthews. K.C., was a Conservative member of Parliament and held the position of Home Secretary from 188(i to 1592. Stratford friends are notified that the funeral of the late Mr. Thomas Walsh will leave St. Joseph's Church at 3 p.m. on Sunday for Te Henui Cemetery. Mr. Walsh was well-known in this district, having been the first railway guard on the trains between Hawera and New Plymouth.

A telegram from Christehurch announces the death of Joseph Day at the age of 73. He had been pilot at Sumner since 18(17 and during the period he ' resided there he was instrumental in saving a number of persons from drown- . ing. The Royal Humane Society of New Zealand recently recognised his services ; in this respect." Miss Knott, who has been clerk to the Chief Postmaster. New Plymouth, for some years, has been transferred to a similar position at Wellington, and leaves to-day. The Chief Postmaster expressed his appreciation of the manner in which Miss Knott filled her position here, and congratulated her warmly on beiii'i- selected for the more important post at Wellington.
