Hamilton, presiding at the meeting of the Bank of Australasia, commented on the fact that the imports to Australasia had last year for the first time exceeded the exports. This was conclusive proof of Australia and Xew Zealand's enterprise. Moreover, increasing productiveness was associated with (lie great expansion of immigration to Australia. He said that hankers watched the development of the Commonwealth Bank with interest, but tliey had no apprehensions regarding it, nor did they regard it as an unfriendly competitor.
