ARTISTS' FLAT BURNED.

By Telegraph—Press Association. Auskland, Tuesday. A fire broke out on the top floor of the Palmerston Buildings in Queen street about one o'clock this morning. It was confined to wlmt is known as the artists' flat, which, excepting one, studio, was completely gutted. The studios destroyed belonged to Moore Jones, Armin Sehmitt. C. Kingsley-Smith, F. Langmuir, M. Levy, 11. Devere Percy, Misses Kit Turner and Yera Jacobsen. The loss in pictures alone is estimated at £IOOO. i Considerable damage was done from [ water in the premises. In the lower portion of the buildings almost every office suffered. The fire was extinguished about forty minutes after the outbreak. The fire insurances on the Palmerstnn buildings (top flat gutted) were £17,000 in the Guardian Fire Office. The English and Foreign Piano Company's stock which was badly damaged by water, was insured for £7600 in the TTnited Insurance Company, and' Woolridge and Bauglian were insured for £350 in the Atlas. Their stock is a total loss. Schmitt's insurance was £3OO in the Atlas, and his place was a total loss.
