WORK AND WAGES

THE KAITANGATA STRIKE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, Wednesday. The position with regard to "the Otago coal mining industry is critical, and there will be no surprise if a crisis occurs any day. This week the Federation Union have submitted demands to the yarious mines, together with p, request for a conference. To-day the representatives of the Kaitang'ata coal directorate visited Kaitangata to meet the representatives of the Federation Union. As only a very small section of the Otngo-Southland miners favor arbitration, a deadlock seems practically inevitable.
