AN ERRING STOREMAN

THEFT OF OIL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchureh, Last Night. Robert Frederick Wallis, alias Talbot, was charged at the Magistrate's Court this morning with breaking and entering and theft. The evidence given was to the effect that the accused was employed for some time by the Craddock Hardware Company as stornman, but was discharged last year. Whilst in the firm's employ he was in charge of the Jbulk of the stores. The accused sold fifteen drums of oil to one painter, who gave 12s Gd per drum for oil usually sold at 22s fld, and he sold to another painter twenty-one drums of oil, four barrel! of lead, and thirteen tins of linseed oil. The firm's present storeman stated that he never saw any evidences of tht stores having been broken into. Detective McLean gave evidence of the arrest, and said that the accused had admitted having taken the lead and oil from the store at night. He let himself in with a key which he made when storeman. Accused pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Nn application for bail was made.
