MATCHES ELSEWHERE. Auckland, January 28. Wins on the first innings were t' rule in the sixth round of senior crick.. matches concluded on Saturday in exce,lent weather and on good wickets. In each case the team which won the toss and batted first was beaten; and the scores in the three matches were much alike. Ponsonbv replied to 'Varsity's total of 189 with 282. N. C. Sneddon made 116 with a fine display of cricket, nearly all carpet strokes. Woods made 37, Kavanagh 34. Thompson 27, and Wilson 25. • Irahatn, with three wickets for 41,, was 'Varsity's most successful bolwer.

Grafton started badly against Parnell, who had made 208. The first four wicketa went down for 36 runs, but Horspool and Mason put on 104 runs for the fifth wicket, and McCormick and Cullen added over 100 runs for the ninth wicket, the innings closing for 204. Horspool made 73, McCormick 69, Mason 58, Cullen 46. Oliff took five wickets for 148 runs, Derr three for 64.

■korth Shore made 270 against Eden's score of 199. Sale made !>6, Dacre 43, Howden 29, Farquharson 28. Bowling for Eden L. Taylor took four wickets for 52, and Mills three for 13. Mason had been added to the Auckland touring team.

Dunedin, January 28. There was no play on North 'ground yesterday afternoon. After waiting an hour it was decided, owing to the showery weather and the state of the ground, to postpone play in the matches Grange v. Opoho, and Carisbrook A v. Albion. Up to 4 o'clock a. start had not been made in the Carisbrook match, Dunedin v. Carisbrook B.
