SCULLING.
ARNST v. PEARCE. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, July 26. Experts anticipate that Saturday's sculling race will provide the fastest race record at least for the first mile. Both men are rowing at the top of their form. They will have a strong tire, and probably a wind in their favor. During the recent heavy wea--ther they have been training by short hard sprints under the shelter of headlands, and showing marvellous pace. 1 Tremendous interest is taken in the race, and a big attendance is expected. ARNST v. PEARCE. Received 27, 12.25 ajn. Sydney, July 2fl. Arast and Pearce have had excellent trial spins. They rowed level to Uhrs Point, where Pearce shot ahead a length and a quarter and maintained the lead beyond the mile beacon, where the pacemakers dropped out. Arnst spurted, shooting two lengths to the front. He then dropped back, and shortly after stopped. The most nolircalbe:''feature is the difference between, the styles. Arnst pulls a long sweeping stroke, catching and finishing hard. Pearee's strokes are considerably shorter;; but dipped faster -and are particularly lively.
