VICTIM OF AN EX-CONVICT. By. Cable—Press Associ'ation-i.Copyrighl; London, July 25. Robert Hutchinson, son of a Manchester cotton-spinner, who is charged with forgery, is making a remarkable defence, alleging himself to be the innocent victim of an cx-eonvict named McKenzie, who was a member of a Bkilful band of forgers. Hutchinson was actively engaged in politican work, and received cheques from well-known people in aid of the tariff reform propaganda. McKenzie acted as Hutchinson's treasurer, but has since died. Hutjchinson alleges that McKenzie utilised small cheques to execute forgeries of the names of well-known persons on cheques for larger sums.
