ANGLO-JAP TREATY.
POSITION OF THE DOMINIONS. By Cable —Press Association—Copyright London, July 21. Viscount Wolmer inquired the extent to which the oversea dominions were committed by their approval of the Anglo-Japanese treaty, whether Japan had informed the dominions of her course of action in the event of Britain being involved in war under Article 2 of the treaty. £ir Edward Grey said the action of the dominions in the event of war was a matter for consideration by the Imperial Government to consultation with the dominions, and was no matter for discussion with any foreign Government. JAPAN AND THE UNITED STATES. ARMED CONFLICT UNTHINKABLE. Tokio, July 21. News originally published implied that the Anglo-American Arbitration Treaty was concluded without a renewal of tho Anglo-Japanese Alliance, hence strong disapproval. But leading journals and prominent politicists now express satisfaction at the extension of the area of the pacific zone, and declare that Japan desires an arbitration treaty "with tho United States, inasmuch as armed conflict witli that country is unthinkable.
