THE LIGHT AND SHADE OP MAORI LIFE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. Business in connection with the native meeting was resumed this morning at Huntly, and in the afternoon at Waahi. The receiving of signatures was concluded, audi all were relieved .when' this tedious' and wearisome work was ended to-day. There has been a considerable influx of natives from Te Kuiti, Kihikihi and other parts of the King Country. The brass band which accompanied' the Te Kuiti natives received an especially warm welcome. The presence of the band wall serve as another source of distraction, and will not conduce to the rapid accomplishment of the business. On Tuesday night two children, about a year old, died, so that on one corner of the marae a tangi is proceeding, the mournens keeping up a mournful wail as they sit round the sides of the tent, in the centre of which the remains of the little ones 'have been laid out; in another comer the brass band discourses merry music, and tempt® exponents to show their skill at the haka. On the cost side of the marae cooking by steam proceeds, and thus the lights and shades of native life with its bold* and striking contrasts vividly impress visitors.
