PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Thursday last. Present: Messrs. J, Young (chairman), T. Harvey, P. Willcox, and A. Potter. FOREMAN'S REPORT.

The foreman reported that an out- ' let drain on the Lower Waiteaka road i had been blocked by a crossing. It would cost about £0 to put in a pipe culvert on the Upper Parihaka road as requested by Mr. Lysaght, and nothing bad been done in the matter until it was known how far Mr. Lysaght would subsidise the work. Repairs had been done to the Upper Arawahata, Te Poka, Miittihi and Lower Arawhata roads. The Te Namu road was now receiving attention. On the Warea road some bad holes had 'been repaired, and a new pit opened up with satisfactory results. There were also some very bad places on the Opua road. A large amount of water had flowed over the road and had done some damage to the metal. The water was over the wire fences. On the' Lower Kahui road a considerable amount of water coming off the main road had done a considerable amount of scouring in the township. It would be wise to ask the county to put in a larger culvert on the main road to stop the overflow. It was resolved that the county clerk be written to, calling attention to the matter. The culvert near the Methodist Church is not of sufficient capacity to carry the flood water. The person blocking up the drain on the Waiteaka road is to be written to. The foreman was instructed to clean out the drain on Opua road to prevent overflow.

GENERAL. Messrs. Wright and Low asked permission to erect a gate across the top end of Ngariki road.—The Board has a standing order that they do not give j permission to erect gates on roads. ' The ratepayers on Stent road petitioned the Board to do two chains of metalling, and later on to form 40 chains of road.—The Board decided to do two chains of metalling. The poundkeeper is to be notified that he must cease grazing any stock in the pound other than impounded stock . The chairman was voted 30s expenses for attending the delegates' meeting at Kaponga. Mr. Willcox brought up the question of the foreman residing outside of Rahotu, He considered it should be the place of residence, as it was more central.—The foreman to report to next meeting on this question. A special meeting will be held next Tuesday, 18th inst., at 10.30 a.m., to consider the question of striking rates for the current year. There is a probabilitv that the Board will strike differential rates.

' Accounts amounting to £704 were passed for payment—Abridged from Opunake Times.
