Mr. Hughes has received a numer-ously-signed petition from Suva protesting against the proposed increase in the duty on bananas, in order to assist Australian growers. SMITHSON TO HANG. Perth, July 15. The Executive Council has decided that the death sentence on Smithson shall be carried out on August 25. [Smithson outraged and murdered a girl of 18.]
