PETROLEUM NEWS.
A recent resident of New Plymouth, writing from Waihi to a local director, prefaces his letter by saying: "Many thanks for the tin of petroleum forwarded some time ago. You will be pleased to know that it has proved a very effective remedy for rheumatism. Our friena is now able to go to work, whereas before using the petroleum he was quite invalided. My friend has been persuading me to write for more. Others also hearing of the efficacy in the case above referred to have put in their appeal, so if you will kindly forward you will earn the endless gratitude of those afflicted ones. Who knows but ere long, when the directors are making provision for the erection of a refinery they may at the same time erect a sanatorium for dealing with cases like the one referred to. There are evidently healing qualities in Taranaki petroleum." OIL IX BORNEO. A pres* cablegram states that the Anglo-Saxon Company of London struck oil in their bore at a depth of 540 feet.
