The Clifton .Oonnty Coumil met Sit. Waitara yesterday. Present: Councillors J. W. Foreman (chairman), X. McKenzie, W. A. Wright, C. O'Sullivan. Uishell, and Gaustad. ENGINEER'S KEI'OHX. He has a numerically strong party, but these contracts have been greatly hampered by adverse weather conditions; in fact, it is somewhat lale for earthwork 011 roads that arc in con-tiilit use. A small bridge on this road, near Mr. Kkdahl'R, was iu--jiected and pronounced unsafe. Ar-l-ageiiieiits Mere therefore made for a temporary crossing, pending cutting out limber for the new bridge, which has already been let. On (he Kaka road, work has been delayed owing to the parlies employed leaving Ihe district. Mokau riding—Coleman lias put out a hundred yards of gravel oil the Miiui Hill. Clifton road, covering a distance of 17 chains. A suivey was made and lenders called for further work on the Pnkearuhc township deviation. On the Mimi-Mokan road, .lonos has completed II chains of metalling, and proposes eeasin« work for this season. The same

contractor lias also put out 220 yard» of maintenance gravel. On the Uruti fond, a survey xva# made and tenders called for creek deviation at the ford. Tenders have also been called for the concrete culvert on this road. The grader completed the season's work last week. st nd ■lw< been returned to the shed in Waitara. Tenders were dealt with ill commit too. It was decided to extend till next meeting the time for receiving tenders for the construction of the concrete culvert at Uwti. ' It was decided to invite tenders for hand-breaking all the available stone in the Okoke pit. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £585 17s lOd were passed for payment. MISCKUj.W'EOVS. John 11. Allen, Tikorangi, wrote thai it was his intention to charge a royalty of sixpence a yard on all gravel taken out of the pit on his property at Wai tara East. U. K. l.angnuin, surfaceman in thiWailii riding, forwarded his resignation. Walter A. Davis, 11. Snyer, and C. Jones applied for the position, and 11. Bayer was appointed. The lion. YV. Hall-Jones wrote that the Council's letter regarding the necessity for constructing a bridge'over the Moknu river had hcen referred to the Hon. James JkGowan, who was now administering the Department of Roads The secretary of the Hospital Hoard wrote tluit the Council's monthly contribution to the Hoard's revenue Avas £2l 5s 4d, or £205 4s Id for the year. Tile Treasury notified that tile loan of £lOllll for the metalling of t'i - Oapni road was now available.
