WAITARA ROAD. (From our Own Correspondent). The Huirangi school and Settlers' picnic took place last Friday in Mr Louis Andrew's paddock. A very coU southerly wind was blowing, but the attendance during the day was exceptionally good. The afternoon was devoted to children's races, cxery child getting a substantial prize. At 4.30 th-a children moved to the hall and partook of a good tea, at the conclusion, of which, Mr. Andrewß, chairman of the committee, in a few well-spoken words, presented the annual prizes. As tin children left the hall each received a bag of lollies, the donation of Mr. Beck* bessiuger, of Waitara. At 5.30 the adults partook of tea, after which a good programme of Bpor.'s was got off as under:— Married Women's Race—Mrs. Louis Andrews 1, Mrs. Louis Sal' Urn 2, Mrs. O. Herrick 3.

Tug-of-War, married v. single women —Single won easily. Tng-of-War, married v. single men— Married won after a good pull. The gathering was one of the be-,t held in the district, and reflects credit on those who had charge of the arrangements.
A dance was held in the hall and was largely attended. I luive been asked to draw the public's attention to the fact that some persons are suspected of taking game out ot season. It would be well in the interest of all true sportsmen if the Acclimatisation would appoint a rauger for the Huirangi district. Birds are not yet strong on the wing, and fall an easy prey to the pot hunter. Poachers '*;• ware!
