THE LAST TEST CAME. '•BRUTALITY AND RUFFIANISM.' Sydney, March 24. Following are further English comments on the football test: — The Daily Express says the idea of instructing* the Westerners in the delights of Northern Union football was a failure. Many left the ground heartily disgusted at the foul and brumal tactics employed towards the close, when the game developed into a scrapping match. The views »r tie- unl-ia-ed London Chronicle on the game are worth quoting in full. They are a = follow-: "The tackling developed from fierceness into brutality and ruffianism. First Cross was ordered oil for deliberately kicking an opponent. Then Thomas, of Oldham, was guilty of the same foul tactic. The sufferer in this case was GilchirSt, who was not disposed to take it lying down . He arose and admini-tered such fistic chastisement to the Oldham player as will not soon be forgotten. Everyone anticipated that both men would receive marching orders, but the referee was evidently of the Opinion that I iu-tice had alrea.lv "been ineted out."
