WAITARA WEST ROAD BOARD.

At the monthly meeting of the above Board there were present: Messrs T. Turnbull (chairman), French, Hellicr, and Smith.

Correspondence was read from the Road Department,' notifying that grants were available on Kelly Eoad, £130; Waitara .Road, £1 for £, £2011; and Wortley Road, £1 for £-1, £IOO. From Valuation Department, forwarding separate valuations for special rating purposes.

From the Treasury, stating that the loan of £7OO for construction of Waitara Road would he granted, provided the necessary steps were taken by the Board.

From Messrs Western Bros., requesting that metal on Brown Road be repaired.

Tenders for formation and metalling about one mile of the Wortley Road were received from Mr J. Tarry, formation £l6, gravel £4 18s 6d per chain; Messrs Bayly and Sole, formation £lO, gravel £4 7s 6d per chain, and broken metal, £6 7s 8d ; Mr J. Coleshy, formation, £4O, gravel £5 per chain; Mr W. Cartwright, formation £22 10s' gravel £i os per chain, and broken metal £6 9s (id. ■'*'

Mr Cartwright's tender at £-1 5s per chain for gravel was accepted. The surfaceman was dircctod to repair the Brown Koad and to arrange with Mr Cartwright to deliver the necessary metal for same.

_Mr Smith was authorised to get the hill on the Karahua Road leading to Waitara bridge formed, and to notify Mr Sarten that the Board would supply the necessary pipes, provided he carted same free of cost to the Board.

The chairman was authorised to appoint a second surfaceman for the next three or four months. Mr Tate waited on the Board and requested that the lower end of Brown Koad by Waitara be formed; also that 'pipes be procured for draining. The sum of £5 was granted, provided Mr Tate superintends the same and gives some free labour.

A special meeting was held to adopt a special order re rate for loan of £7OO on Waitara Koad.

Accounts were passed for payment and tKe Board rose.
