A careful and exhaustive scrutiny of the rolls used on election day at the various polling places in the Taranaki electorate was in pursuance of the provisions of the Electoral Act, 1905, made by the Returning Officer and his assistants in the presence of scrutineers at the Court House yesterday, occupying a period of eight hours. This is a statutory provision which is followed by a final count of the votes prior to the public declaration of the poll. The final count will be made on Monday.
