THE OPAKU RESERVE FOR HIGHER EDUCATION.

CONFERENCE ON SCHEME. (PER PRBSS ASSOCIATION.) Wanganui, August 23. The conference of representatives of the Victoria College Council, the New Plymouth and Wanganui Education Boards, and the New Plymouth High tichool Board was held to-night for the purpose of considering as to the disposal of the revenue arising from the Opabu Reserve. Resolutions were carried : That, in the opinion of this Oonference, scholarships shall be established out of the funds arising from the Opaku Reserve, and that these scholarships be only open to the children receiving education in the Taranaki Provincial District; that the revenue from the Opaku Reserve be devoted, as agreed to in the foregoing resolution, and divided between the Wanganui and Taranaki Education Boards on the basis of the population contained in the respective education districts within the Taranaki province; 3 -That the \ scholarships established out of the I revenue arising from the Opaku Reserve be tenable for three years at such secondary school as tho Education Board of the district in which the scholarship is gained may direct, and 3 years at the Victoria University; 4 —That Messrs. Mackay, Roy and Bridge proceed to Wellington for the purpose of interviewing the Minister of Education, with the object of giving effect to the resolution of this Conference in connection with the University Reserve, and that the Victoria College Council" be aßked to appoint a delegate to act with the delegates of the other interested bodies. Mr, 0. Wilson and the Rsv. Evans, representing the Victoria College Council, opposed the first two resolutions.
