SANITATION.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—l see from this morning's telegrams that as precautionary measures against the outbreak of plague the Wellington people are appointing additional inspectors and have made arrangements for inspection of the back premises of fruit and fish shops three or four times a week. It would be interesting to know through your columns whether our Borough Council is putting on an extra inspector or two, and whether active steps are being taken for the removal from the borough of rotten fruit and decayed fish offal. This is really an urgent matter, as such removal is not only necessary as a precaution against plague, but also against an outbreak of typhoid fever, the germs of which are harboured by and rapidly develop upon fish draff and offal.—l am, etc., Ratepayer. New Plymouth, £pril 23rd, 1900.
