SUPPLYING CHILDREN WITH LIQUOR.
"A DISGUACE TO MANHOOD," (rEB PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Wanoanui, April 3. At the Supreme Court to-day, James McDonald was charged that on the 16th December, 1899, at Ohingaiti, with intent to injure or annoy Albert Ltlley and James Tuckey, he did administer to or cause to be taken by the said Albert Lilley and James Tuckey a certain noxious thing, to wit, bcor, whereby the lives of both were endangered, and grievous bodily harm was caused to them. Tilley and Tuckey are both children of six years of age, and the evidence disclosed the fact that accused called them to his whare and gave each three glasses of beer, rendering both insensibly drunk. Tho children wore found by one of the parents in accused's place lying stupidly drunk on the floor, accused, also inl jxicated, lying with his back to the door. Both children suffered considerably, Lilly, iu particular, remaining unconscious for some time. On an emetic being administered, both children vomited largo quantities of beer. Judge Edwards otdered one witness, who admitted that lie stood by and saw the beer given to tho children without protesting, to stand down, as he was " a disgrace to manhood." Accused was found guilty and orde: ed (o come up for sentoiu'o when ca'lol on.
