New Zealanders Plan Out-of-the Way Tour Among the passengers who left for Sydney by the Wanganella yesterday were Mr and Mrs B. Sutherland., of Homewood Avenue, Karori, Miss J. Sutherland, their daughter, and Mrs M. Lyons. This party is going upon | a strange journey, one that has not been booked before. Indeed, the route is so strange that it could; not be booked in Wellington. Thomias Cook and Son having had to refer one section of the journey to its office in Singapore, which is in closer touch with the coun Ties proposed to be traversed. In Sydney the party is to join the Dutch liner Nieuw Zeeland, in which i they are to visit, not only Scurabay.i. land Batavia, but also the land of strange and beautiful cer jwouial dances, Bali, which only Initch vessels are allowed to approach From there they will proceed to Singapore and other interesting places in the Strai's Settlements and Malay. So far they will have adhered to well-trodd'ein paths, buit . after that they will depart to the wilds of the Orient. They intend to try to arrange for lan overland our (by car, if possible) across country, from Malay to ; China, coming out somewhere on the {Yangtse Kiang River, and proceeding : thence to Shanghai and Peking. It is : understood 'that this trip has been : done before by white trippers—just as a couple of girls in an old Fj.'l made the Cairo-to-Cape Town journey—but very little is known in New Zealand of the route or of the difficulties which may be encountered in undertaking such an unusual journey. The return trip will be made by way of Japan and Honolulu. The party expects to return to Wellington on or about September 20.
