DUE IN STRATFORD.

MODEL VESSEL. Barquentine Israel Coming This Week. The following letter has been, revived by the “Central Press”: Barquentine Israel, At Hawera, 12/3/37. Sir, —Weather permitting, th© barquentine Israel should arrive in Stratford from Kaponga and Opunake on Wednesday or Thursday, thence on to New Plymouth. The object of the trip is to raise funds to build a new mission ship replacing the burnt Israel. A terrific amount of interest is taken in this model wherever she goes, more especially by children and old sailors. Yours Faithfully, Lawrence Beavis.

Mr Beavis will be remembered for his last year’s wheelbarrow effort — pushing a barrow from Auckland to Wellington and pulling it from Wallington to Auckland. As that trip did not raise much towards the cost of replacing his burnt mission ship, this year he has set out on a more ambitious effort. A model barquentine, named Israel, replaces his barrow. He pushes from behind using sails to assist when the wind is fair. A chair is also rigged behind the vessel and the master of the barquentine can ride down hills and safely steer his little craft.
