Tlie New Zealand Fruitgrowers' Federation have been allotted, approximately 16,000 cases of space by the Shipping Board for apples'on the Port Caroline. It is reported thai? as any space not filled will be charged as dead freight the responsibility for filling -the allotment rests entirely with the fruitgrowers, Mr Rundle yesterday received a letter from Mr F. J. Shelton, manager of the Federation, Avhich states that Nelson can have space for 12,000 cases, and that the time for receiving fruit.at "Wellingjton has been extended from the Ist .to the 6th March. In tiup first instance Nelson was allotted 7"0 cases. If Nelson is able to despatch 12,000 cases of tbe 16,000 for which space is available in. the Port Caroline the shipment will as a result be largely of fruit from Nelson, a circumstance which should materially assist in keeping the local product well to the front, and probably bo the means also of securing adequate space in future shipments. To the present time the applications for space for] the following number of cases per the j Port Caroline have been received: — Bisley Bros., 1000; Mr Lawry, 200: Mr Gribble, 50; Mr F. Hart, 100; Mr McMurtrie, 75; Mr C. J. Barley, 250; Tasman Fruit Packing Association, 1500; Mariri Fruit Packing Association, 1500; Lower Moutere Fruit Association, 2000rRiwnka Fruit Association, 500; Messrs Barr and Houlker, 400.
