AN IMPORTANT APPOINTMENT
The Trustees of the Cawthron Institute have appointed Miss Kathleen Curtis., of Auckland, as mycologist on their staff of scientists. This lady has had a brilliant career to date. Among her many qualifications may be mentioned the degrees of M.A. (New Zealand) and M.Sc. (London) and first-class honours ia botany. She was Senior University Scholar in botany in 1915, Exhibition Science Scholar (botany) from 1915 to date, and holds the diploma of the Imperial College of Science and Technology, Lozidon. Since 1915 Miss Curtis has worked at plant pathology, and, in particular, at mycology at the imperial College under Professors Farmar and Blackmail. She has published a work on the wart disease in potatoes, and had a long paper on this disease published in the "Annals of Botany" for January. The same thesis is being presented for the London D.Sc., and the result should be known in a few weeks. Miss Curtis, in addition, has been awarded the- Huxiey memorial gold medal for research.
