Mr and Mrs W. W. Browning who* were for many years residents of Cablemy, and who have a large number of mends in the district, are leaving London this month for Sydney, on. a visitto their married daughter..

Mr F. H. Bethwaite, who has been ia the service of Messrs Levin and Co. Ltd. for the past 20 years, for a considerable period of which he has been accountant, has been appointed as manager of the firms' branch at WanganuL Mr Bethwaite will take up Ms new duties shortly.

Mr Percy Jones, conductor of St. Augustine's Band, has been appointed adjudicator at the Dunedin band contest (reports a Press Association message from Dunedin).

Mr J. Glen, who has been secretary of the Nelson Jockey Club since 1894,. has tendered his resignation, to take effect from July 31st, 1920. At themeeting of the committee- of the club on_ Saturday evening, reference was made to the faithful service Mr Gfien had rendered the club; The acceptance of the resignation was deferred.

Lieut.-Colonei C. G. Fowles, C.M.G., 8.5.0., N.Z.S.C., Commandant Trentham Military Camp, has been granted' three months' sick leave. LieutenantColonel E. 0. Chesney, N.Z.S.C., assumes command of Trentham Military Camp during the absence of LieutenantColonel Powles.

Sir Henry Galway, Governor of South Australia, who, after six years and two months' service there, is returning, to England via the Panama Canal, is at present in Wellington. Sir Henry Galwav, who is sixty years of age, has established somewhat of a record, having spent thirty-nine years in the service of the Imperial Government abroad. He was for fifteen years the vice-regal representative in British East Africa, and is a well-travelled ?nan.
