NEW ZEALAND'S PATRIOTISM

Christchurch, Feb. 19. The Governor-General was entertained a.t dinner to-night by the officers of the Canterbury Military District. In the conrse of his response to the toast of his health, Lord Liverpool said: "I shall leave New Zealand with the happiest recollections of my ass<>ciations with its military forces, feeling certain that should occasion again arise for a call to be made for its citizens to assist the Empire, its sons will not- be found wanting in coming forward and in giving the maximum that i^ in their power, to uphold the traditions handed down to them by their forefathers. an<] to maintain the honour fo their.race and" flag."
