MR HOLLAND HECKLED.

COOL RECEPTION AT RIRCHFIELD

Labour candidates on the West Coast have not much room for complaint anent interruptions and heckling during the present campaign. Birchfield seems to have provided the exception, according to the following report from the "Westport News" : — Mr B. E. Holland, Labour candidate for Buller electorate, delivered a political address at Birchfield. Mr O'Rourke, of Granity, presided. The meeting was reinforced by -supporters of Mr Holland from Waimangaroa. Mr Holland delivered an address on his customary lines. At the conclusion he was heckled a good deal by questioners, who showed themselves hostile to his statements of policy. , , Mr G. Griffiths wanted to know where he was to find the monoy to carry out his policy. Mr Holland mentioned the large estates, which would be subdivided Mr Griffiths said if tho whole of them wore subdivided there ' would not bo enough money then to carry out Mr Holland's policy. He accused the candidate and his party of driving capital out ° Mr cj oUGrimths asked him) how the country would get on if all had been conscientious objectors, whom Mr Holland had defended , ~ Mr Holland was also heckled over his attitude in regard to Miss Rout. . Birchfield residents, without reflecting on the impartiality of Mr O'llouike, rather resented the reflection that its own community could not provide a *^£Js£^M come back there was no need to- they woro going to have a practical miner for their member.
