AN APPEAL.

(To the Editor of "The Colonist")

Sir,—The Committee of tho Royal "N.Z. Society for the Health of Women and Children, Nelson branch, popularly known as the Plunket Society, has requested us to ask you to open a subscription list to raise funds for the^puiv chase of a small car for the use of the Society's nurse, and for your kind assistance in appealing to tile public fora genespua response. T3;c work of tho nurse in both town and country has grown to such an extent that it is impossible for her to cope with it on a bicycle and the tax upon her strength (there being no trains or trains) is too ■much for any woman. Many branches of the Society have already purchased cars, and without one tho Nelson branch will find it impossible to retain the services of Nurse Thomson or to secure another nurse to fill her place. The nurse's services are given free to all requiring them, and a car will enable her to do her ;town work quicker and also to extend her visits to the country districts. It is desired to raise £300 to purchase a car and" to provide for tho first year's upkeep. A subscription of £25 entitles the subscriber to life membership in the Society, and we trust all will assist the society to help the women and children by contributing large or small stuns, according to their means.
